- Abstract
- This thesis attempts to provide recommendations for the City of Boulder in their effort to municipalize in order to increase renewable energy. Two separate analyses are conducted in this research to compare and contrast Boulder’s attempt with previous cases of municipalization and cases of renewable energy increase. The cases of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Hermiston, Oregon; and Berthoud, Colorado are analyzed in the municipalization analysis. General research and case study research results are synthesized to produce a generic representation of the municipalization procedure. Greensburg, Kansas; Aspen, Colorado; and Georgetown, Texas are analyzed to develop recommendations for the City of Boulder regarding the relevant considerations related to attempts to increase renewable energy reliance. These analyses combine to provide further information and considerations for the expansion of information available to the City of Boulder and future locations of municipalization for increased renewable energy.
