Abstract
  • In June, 1942, the United States Navy brought Japanese-Americans to Boulder to act as instructors in the Japaneee Language School maintained for Navy peraonnel at the University of Colorado until June, 1946.

Some Boulder residents had Japanese-Americans as neighbors, tenants, and friends. Others had less intimate contacts with the newcomers. This study is an attempt to reveal to what extent various degrees of association effected changes in the responses of the townsfolk to the Japanease and to disclose the nature of the associations which produced these alterations. Documents, newspapers, and student letters were utilized. Civic leaders, Japanese-Americans. and Caucasian residents returned questionnaires or were interviewed.
