Program Note
Colorado Quandary is based on a painting by Maria Long; the painting depicts the dilemma of choosing between practicing music indoors and enjoying nature outdoors. Frantic, fastpaced
practice music contrasts with lyrical “outdoors” music. The two kinds of music, and two passions, battle it out with neither emerging victorious in the end. The title is also a play on words, referencing the infamous Quandary Peak in Colorado.
