  • This is Robert Burgh's field notebook from his excavation at Mantle's Cave, Dinosaur National Monument in 1947 and 1948. Burgh was sent quickly, in the cold and dreary winter months, to complete the excavation of the site that Scoggin had begun back in 1939 and 1940 (Scoggin had died during World War II). The findings of both Scoggin and Burgh would soon be published in the Series in Anthropology, Volume 2, The Archaeology of Castle Park.The University of Colorado Museum of Natural History holds the physical notebook, and it has been reproduced here with their permission.
