Cultivating the Adolescent Storyteller Through Devised Theatre

This thesis examines the effectiveness of the Kids Do It All model of devising theatre with young people in cultivating the adolescent storyteller. Kids Do It All is a summer theatre camp ran by Colorado State University where young people participate in week-long sessions, collectively creating original short plays. This thesis is a case study that examines the work of three groups of middle school-aged adolescents as they participate in the camp in June of 2014. The study uses narrative inquiry to detail the young participants’ experiences in the program to look for evidence that they are developing multimodal storytelling abilities.
