Description

This session features two presentations on open, digital projects from an Assistant Professor and a PhD student in Theatre & Dance. Winner of the 2017 ATHE/ASTR Award for Excellence in Digital Scholarship, HemiPress, the digital publications imprint of the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and politics, uses a variety of customized open-source digital humanities platforms to produce digital scholarship at the intersections of scholarship, artistic practice, and political life in the Americas. Marcos Steuernagel will provide an overview of the ways in which the state-of-the-art multilingual publication capacities and immersive formats for capturing the “live” of performance allow for novel methodological lenses to approach the intersection of performance studies and the digital humanities. LEAVING HOME, FINDING HOME is a digital storytelling space by and for the immigrant women from South Asia residing in the United States. The forum is an open-access website for sharing and celebrating both collective and individual experiences, as well as for exploring the power of digital storytelling as a communicative practice which provides a lasting and safe platform on which to form a socially engaged community.
