Abstract
The rise of Second Wave feminism in France had a profound impact upon many aspects of French culture and society. This thesis will focus on its influence on French literature, which was signified by the emergence of a new style of writing called l’écriture féminine. I shall examine the implementation of l’écriture féminineinfour works written by French feminist writers during this time period:Le rire de la méduseby Hélène Cixous, Les mots pour le dire by Marie Cardinal,Ce sexe qui n’en est pas unby Luce Irigaray, and Une femmeby Annie Ernaux. Specifically, this thesis will examine how these four authors implementedl’écriture féminine as a mechanism to abolish sexual oppression.
