- Abstract
- Many colleges and universities offer introductory programming classes based on the FORTRAN language. Several of these schools are contemplating a change to a more modern programming language in this first course. The Department of Computer Science in University of Colorado has recently made the transition from FORTRAN to PASCAL, and this paper offers an informal discussion of the experiences of one instructor during that change. It is hoped that others who may be considering a similar change will benefit from our experiences.
