The Creation of Redstone Hollows is a thesis about the visual design of what it took to kickstart a small indie video game into development by Cera Kocher. This thesis includes inspirations, research, technical decisions, environmental design, process, drafts, and realities when it came to the start of the indie game Redstone Hollows. Redstone Hollows is a RPG (roleplaying game) set in a Scandinavian fantasy landscape having you (the main character) work with nature and your community to find balance between the two worlds. The visual aesthetic is in a 2D isometric pixel art style with chibi characters. This thesis is done in a visual dictionary style so throughout the piece there are annotated visuals throughout to cue the reader of the references made in the thesis. There are visuals that are both original to Redstone Hollows in addition to visuals referenced from various sources for research, inspiration, or technical explanation. Redstone Hollows is a collaborative project since Cera Kocher is in charge of visual assets while her partner Christopher Davidoff (Computer Science CU Alumni) is in charge of implementation of assets in Unity.
