Undergraduate Honors Thesis
The Implications of Modern Day Design Public Deposited
- Abstract
This thesis begins with a discussion of the power of branding in the modern world, as well as a review of the best practices and historical implications of the elements of design (specifically color, typography, and form). This literature review can be used as a guide for best practices and understanding of how these elements can be successfully utilized.
I include research conducted through case studies of examples of the most successful uses of these elements, and how these were able to build a culture and a rapport surrounding their brand. I also conducted informal interviews in the Santa Fe art district. I spoke with local artists and designers about their ideas, opinions, and experiences. These are included in "as told to" style.
I consider that design is perceived primarily subconsciously, and the overwhelm caused by the number of choices we face today. In an effort to bring awareness to our personal power and control when making purchasing decisions, I emphasize the idea of active consideration of the effect design has on us when making decisions.
