- Abstract
- This thesis analyzes how and why students of the West African Students’ Union “appropriated, translated, rehistoricized and read anew” the same signs and symbols that justified the expansion of the Euro-Christian colonial paradigm in order to paradoxically maximize their sociopolitical power and erode the colonial system.2 It focuses specifically on students’ reappropriation of Christianity, civilization and commerce—or ‘the Three C’s’—between 1925 and 1960.
