- Abstract
- The novella The Love Parade follows a pair of male and female twins who struggle with isolation, identity, community, and addiction. The story begins with their father’s funeral and portrays the fallout from his death, the grief of the children, their mothers decreased attention to them and their lives, the children's fall from grace, and ends with the two finally moving on to recovery. Throughout the novella, the twins seek solace through their friends, a party lifestyle, isolation, and nature. The male twin falls into a relationship with a fast paced young girl, Hayden, whom the female twin also feels an infatuation towards. The three, along with a couple of other friends, begin withdrawing from mainstream society and losing touch with what a typical life is meant to feel like. Hayden introduces drugs into the group. Only when all the characters have fallen, do those who remain begin to pull their lives back together.
