Abstract
  • Park Hill, a neighborhood in Denver, Colorado was the area of exploration, with an emphasis on its largely Black population in Northeast Park Hill. The study first explores the racial and economic incomes of the neighborhood which is divided into three subsets that fall along racial and socioeconomic lines. The quality of parks around the neighborhood were rated in accordance with their physical characteristics, ability to be used, and proximity to environmental hazards. Findings from both the quantitative and qualitative research contributed in analyzing how a lack of access to quality green spaces was associated with negative health effects that are disproportionately seen in Black Americans. The research conducted adds to a very modest inventory, but employs a creative way in exploring racial inequality through the access of green spaces in one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods.
