Abstract
  • In August 2021, the University of Colorado Boulder Libraries and Department of Cinema Studies and Moving Image Arts (CINE) were awarded a 3-year grant from the Institute for Library and Information Services’ Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program for the development of an “Experiential Curriculum in Media Archiving and Preservation” (MAP).  To inform the development and evaluation of these activities, s set of Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) was drafted that reflect professional skills and competencies recommended by groups like the SAA Education Committee and the Curriculum Subcommittee of AMIA’s Continuing Education Task Force.

The 2021 report includes: (1) a brief literature review related to the landscape of audiovisual education and the use of professional competency frameworks; (2) two informal environmental scans surveying professional competency models from a number of professional organizations and curriculum components from 25 existing graduate programs; and (3) a draft of the MAP program Student Learning Objectives. A 2022 addendum includes: (1) collected feedback from the Curriuclum Evaluation Committee; (2) revised MAP program SLOS.
