Survival Kits Public Deposited
- Abstract
These stories speak to me in familiar voices, voices that seem to be with me where ever I go, like when my grandmother would tell me of "La Uorona." She would say that the llorona was a woman who killed her ten children and then buried them by the river, and if you were alone at night she would think you were one of her children and take you away. She told me that her mother had said that if you were bad, the llorona would get you.
I am writing this because I'm proud of my wife, Merlin, of course. But because I am an artist and teacher myself, I feel objective and just unbiased enough to say that her coming Master's Thesis Exhibition "Survival Kits" is a major accomplishment and a sound contribution to the world of art and to people of all colors who must come to terms with their identity. Perhaps a survival kit is in order for all of us?
