- Abstract
A quasi-experimental study was conducted which investigated the effect of instrumental method books in agreement with Piaget's theory of conservation on the musical achievement and musical performance of beginning band students. More specifically, answers to the following questions were sought: (1) How is Piaget's theory of conservation applicable to the conceptual development of the beginning band student? (2) To what extent do beginning band method books reflect the theory of conservation, and (3) What are the differences in musical achievement and musical performance between pupils using beginning band method books which actively encourage conservation and pupils using other method books?
