- Abstract
Recognized today principally as a composer, Béla Bartók devoted much of his life to the collection, analysis and categorization of folk music in his native Hungary as well as Romania and Slovakia. Along with his colleague Zoltan Kodaly, Bartók's work as an ethnomusicologist is credited for the resurgence of interest in the preservation of folk music traditions in Hungary.
