Abstract
  • Absolute Threshold is a sonic and experiential short film shown through a series of vignettes of the filmmaker’s personal experiences of deafness, laid against historical moments within the timeline of the invention of the cochlear implant. Objects, places, photographs, and states of being, serve as a source of memory recall which then allows me to reflect on its impact. The film uses a combination of digitally recorded footage, 16mm footage, digital animation, found educational 16mm footage and still photographs. Sound is interwoven with text, as way to share memories and used as an interrogative tool. I ask the question, who am I hearing for?
