Abstract

The Birth of the Centaur is a creation myth for the 21st century; one in which humankind's technological achievements have manifested the ability to create life. The objects within this exhibition ponder the next step in humanity's existence as it explores our indomitable will to conquer the unknown; from the farthest edges of the solar system to the wildest creatures that we share our planet with. The work tells the story of a love affair between human-made technology and the natural world that eventually leads to the intermingling and breaking down of the barriers that once separated the two. The notion is challenged that human made technology will be the sole progenitor of our species. Instead, the viewer is requested to see his/herself within the context of the larger body of humankind and the active role that he/ she can play in its next step.
