    Garcilaso de la Vega (1498-1536) fue militar y el más importante poeta renacentista español. sus temas preferidos son el paso del tiempo, la ausencia, el conflicto entre razón y pasión, y el canto a una naturaleza idílica. El "Soneto XIII" es una de sus composiciones más famosas, que incide en un tema de larga tradición literaria (iniciada por Horacio y Ausonio) como es el tópico del "carpe diem" o "aprovecha el día" ("seize the day")
