Abstract
  • A systematic synthesis and analysis technique is developed for ac switched-mode converters whose desired applications require equal instantaneous power at the input and output ports, such as three-phase rectifiers and inverters. Application of this technique to two basic classes of dc-to-threephase- ac converters , namely the four-topology single-inductor three-capacitor and four-inductor four-capacitor classes, leads to twenty-six useful converters in each class. The significant characteristic of these converters is the harmonic free processing of power. Other characteristics include zero dc offset of output voltages, variable-frequency variable-amplitude output voltages, and output voltage variations below and above the dc input voltage. It is also shown that internal low-frequency energy storage can be used to achieve harmonic-free operation and controllable power factors in converters whose desired applications require unequal instantaneous power at the input and output ports, such as in single-phase rectifiers, inverters, cycloconverters, and reactive power generators . The technique is extended to include the synthesis and analysis of such converters. The extended technique can be used to find all converters with energy storage which can be obtained from a given set of network elements. Since this technique includes the converter dynamics, it also leads to a systematic procedure for the design of these converters for given specifications with minimum component sizes.
