Abstract

My quilts are story-making machines. I am retelling mythological stories made new with dystopian science fiction premises. My quilts, like the stories they tell, can be unbuttoned to reveal more information like a pop up book. I invite viewers to approach the quilts like an interactive puzzle from which they may piece together their own interpretations of the symbols and the stories. Whatever changes the future may hold for us, we will still need the comfort of our stories. Culture itself is made up of stories that resemble a quilt; a quilt that may soften the hardness of reality.
