Abstract
  • This study expands the materialist perspective to queer gender creation in online spaces. This study focuses on how people construct and deconstruct queer genders in online spaces. It explores the ways in which people reform identities in different spaces, and how that space is instrumental in the reforming or creating process. This study was a comparative qualitative content analysis that inspected Reddit, and Tumblr. This study came to the conclusion that identity and discourse formation within these online spaces is dependent on anonymity, and the format of the website. This study argues that spaces control the way in which people are able to interact and that control changes the way in which people are able to create their identities.
